Picking up the pace

Capturing this little guy was no easy feat. He’s quick! Much quicker than me, I realized…

Laurie and I got our legs moving a little faster today, trying out this new routine, of sorts, which I had read about in a fitness magazine. Basically, I think we were supposed to walk a while at a moderate pace, keep walking while gaining speed, and then all-out sprint (or in our case, walk really, really fast) for 90 seconds. We probably didn’t do it as often as we were supposed to, but we tried!

… and I got very tired very fast!

Today’s quotes:

Me: "Whew, I’m winded."

Laurie: "Yeah, that speed-walking for a minute and a half really wears you out."

It was shortly after that we took a water break.

What fun! (That was sarcasm.)

I think we’re both trying to perhaps turn our leisurely walks into more of a workout without really working out, if that makes any sense at all. We’ve been doing these daily walks since February. For me, I’ve seen very little results. Laurie is having more luck, though, I think. It all comes down to diet for me (the darned Oreos are waaaaay to close to my desk at work, and the candy try isn’t much further away). So we’ll see.

I really don’t want to turn this into a diet/weight-loss diary. So I’ll move now.

It’s clear that activity at Bemidji State University is picking up as the students are returning. We’re seen many more kids/young adults walking around and we’ve spotted several parents around, too (walking a good distance away from their children, I assume, as to not embarrass them too badly).

I couldn’t help but recall those college years – every year when I moved back "south" (to Marshall, Minn., from a St. Paul suburb) Mother Nature made sure it was 105 degrees with no breeze or complete and utter downpours. Here’s to hoping our new BSU students have more luck with the weather! Today would have been a nice day to move, albeit perhaps a bit warm.

The following is our "How Well Do You Know Bemidji" clue: (Anyone getting tired of these yet? I know we’re finding it more and more difficult to find good photo opportunities! But Laurie and I really enjoy it, I think. Gives us something to search for every day.)

Have a good afternoon!

P.S. The answer from yesterday, by the way, was the turtle was the image on the "Snapper" sign outside of the MJB Home Center Building.

  1. I like the photos! I think readers are just too chicken to guess. I’m not sure about this one … maybe it’s at the soldier’s memorial thingy near historical society building?
